Description:Currently DAHDI has to download firmware files in order for it to install successfully. If there is no internet connection, DAHDI can not retrieve the Firmware files and fails.

We in the training department proctor practical dCAP exams that require students to install dahdi from source. We also do not allow them to have an internet connection. Currently we work around this problem by adding the firmware files directly to the source we load on the student machines, but this is obviously not a sustainable solution. Changing DAHDI so it continues to build even without the firmware files will solve our particular problem and make others in the community happy as well.

This is generally slotted for the 2.7.0 release to among other things, make dahdi-linux-complete be a complete package with all the necessary firmware files.

Generally, the reason why the firmware files are not included in the repo is that they are non-free.  asterisk.org is intended to only distribute "free" code while digium.com provides the non-free firmware files.
