Description:Loading the wctdm module freezes the system for a few seconds.

That's not a good idea. One reason among many: Some systems have storage controllers which need regular keepalives. "Load wctdm, lose your disk" isn't a good use case. :-P

specifically: load it with debug=1 . Where do you see delays?

smurfix, depending on your kernel version, you might be able to enable timestamps with echo 1 > /sys/module/printk/parameters/printk_time without rebuilding the kernel.
