On a side note, we hope to expand the functionality of this script to include both local and remote asterisk support, builtin manger functions (ping, originate, etc).

I can't accept putting your name in the patch. If you want credit for your contribution, you're welcome to submit your name for inclusion in the CREDITS file, though.

The script does not work. "ping" produces errors and locks up the CLI.

This "verbose" option actually looks like debug mode. It should probably not be output to the file by default, nor should it be read. In fact, I think I'd prefer if you renamed the option entirely to "debug".
