Hmm. This would make it even harder to write docs, books and examples. I know how you feel.

Can't we create an alias function instead, something that people can install in asterisk.conf so they can create any CLI they want and we'll only document the "standard" CLI.

It's not how I feel; it's that people want the option.  I don't care which way we go, as long as the interface is consistent.

Like you said, I want the interface to be consistent.  In that light, I do not feel this patch is appropriate for commit as it certainly does not make things more consistent.  However, I'm glad that you wrote it if it will make people happy.

We probably need to revisit the CLI command structure.  If most people want it the other way, then fine, I don't really care.  We just need to pick a way, and make it consistent.  That was the whole point of the changes made in 1.4, but it sounds like we chose the wrong way ...

I don't think we need to have a bug open, to think about how we want to change this.
