Description:I am having a large installerbase of Linksys PAP2 which use 2 channels and therefore are restricted to G723. Apparently the PAP2T can handle G723 5.3kb like the Digium transcoder card, but when I dial voicemail I can barely make up what it is saying, the voice coming from Asterisk is garbled, although set to G723.

All is working fine in 1.2.x ... But I want to have the additional features and fixes of 1.4.x to enhance my business...

Even with no codec card and using the g723 sound files, the result is still garbled sound in 1.4.x, again, voice is clear in 1.2.x

Is this a problem in Asterisk core or Digium transcoder card?

If you're using G.723 sound prompts, it is very likely that the problem is the prompts.

Hi, this is not an issue with the sound prompts... I put the g723 prompts in to prevent it failing because of no transcoder available... Here is what I have tried so far:

Asterisk-1.2.19 - software codec g.723  (intel derivative): OK
Asterisk-1.2.19 - TC400B hardware card: *Very* bad quality (like talking through 2 tin cans with a rope), and errors on the asterisk console - even after hangup.

Asterisk-1.4.4 - software codec h.723 (intel derivative): NOT OK, garbled sound
Asterisk-1.4.4 - hardware codec: Same result - NOT OK, garbled sound.

So this seems to be a combination of 2 problems...

I bought the hardware codec card so I can switch to 1.4.x and yet service my G723 codec customers, however I can forget the card altogether until it supports G723.1 6.3k

Asterisk 1.4.x, with or without the hardware codec card does NOT support G723 anymore, in any bitrate... Hope somebody can look at this.

If you are having trouble with the TC400B, please contact Digium support, and they can help you troubleshoot the issues.

Obviously this is not a TC400B problem as this also occurs with the software "intel" codecs... Yes they are not licensed, so that's probably why nobody complaints, but the issue remains nevertheless...

I have a case open with Digium about this, but nothing seems to be happening...

Please read my posts.

Is Asterisk doomed not to have G723.1 support, eventhough now the hardware codec cards are available, and therefore licensed?

Closing.  This must go through Digium support if a TC400B is involved.

Whether the Intel codec works or not is irrelevant.  It is an out-of-tree module and cannot/will not be supported here.
