Description: | currently *NOW is running a 686 kernel including cmov, yes? a nice eventual feature would be 586 or even generic 386 support -- many people have VIA-based machines which infamously fall short of 686 thanks to lack of cmov. is this something that simply needs kicked up to rpath? it seems like many of their packages are 386 already. | ||
Comments: | By: Jason Parker (jparker) 2007-01-09 14:45:56.000-0600 James, is this something that can even be done in rPath? By: James Lyons (james) 2007-01-31 18:04:44.000-0600 We can, although it would be cumbersome. This would require an entirely separate build. Effectively we'd have i586, i686 (smp and non-smp) and x86_64 (smp and non-smp). In the future, this could be offered, just not right now. By: James Lyons (james) 2007-01-31 18:07:43.000-0600 Qwell told to close... so I'm closing. status: closed, resolution: suspended - we can revisit it in the future. alternatively, could we just go from 686 to 386? surely it doesn't do THAT many optimizations |
