Description:I set vmexten=*98 in sip.conf (tried in both general and peer section).

When the message waiting indicator is blinking on the Snom phone, I hit the "Retrieve" button, but the phone displays "Not found: asterisk".

As you know, "asterisk" is the default for vmexten. I believe chan_sip doesn't retrieve the value from sip.conf.

I believe this extension is actually controlled in the phone configuration. On a Cisco IP phone (which is what I have) the option is called 'messages_uri'

Also, I'm not sure if you can use * for extension. Did you try just the numerical value, like 98? Also, in your trace, you've only included the part where the phone calls to retrieve the message. You also have to show the NOTIFY in order to see what Asterisk is putting there (which is what vmexten has impact on).

Also, it would be helpful to see the DEBUG log. To enable it:

1) Make sure your logger.conf has the following line:
  console => notice,warning,error,debug
2) Restart
3) Enable SIP transaction logging with the following CLI commands:
set debug 4
set verbose 4
sip debug
4) Save complete log (including NOTIFY and all) to file and _attach_ said file to the bug.

Hope this helps.

OK, I'll upload the DEBUG log.

However, I've also tried with "test" (OK, it's not numerical, too ;) ) and phone always tries to INVITE "asterisk".

Also, look for that configuration option in the Snom config

Well, I've already tried several values for "Mailbox" option in Snom configuration menu. It always sends an INVITE to "asterisk", even when "Mailbox" is empty...

We have reported this to Snom, who believes this is a bug in their firmware.

Your log file does not include the actual notify that sends the extension. Check that message and you will see that we send it.

Closing this as I see it as a Snom bug, not an Asterisk bug. please re-open if you find it to be wrong. Thanks for reporting an issue!
