Description:Here is what is played when you check your messages in French:
Playing 'vm-password' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-youhave' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'digits/1' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-INBOX' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-and' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'digits/2' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-messages' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-Old' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-onefor' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-messages' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-INBOX' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-opts' (language 'fr')

Here is the English equivalent:
-- Playing 'vm-password' (language 'en')
   -- Playing 'vm-youhave' (language 'en')
   -- Playing 'digits/1' (language 'en')
   -- Playing 'vm-INBOX' (language 'en')
   -- Playing 'vm-and' (language 'en')
   -- Playing 'digits/2' (language 'en')
   -- Playing 'vm-Old' (language 'en')
   -- Playing 'vm-messages' (language 'en')
   -- Playing 'vm-onefor' (language 'en')
   -- Playing 'vm-INBOX' (language 'en')
   -- Playing 'vm-messages' (language 'en')
   -- Playing 'vm-opts' (language 'en')

Notice how "vm-Old" and "vm-messages" are inverted in French AND how "INBOX" and "Messages" are also inverted.  This results in a nonsense sentence.

Solution: keep the order the same as English.  It's easier to work around this than when some are adapted and some aren't.

Rather than put in place a temporary fix, why not tell us how to actually fix the problem?  We like improvements to the code, not just workarounds.

The way to really fix it is the following:

In french, when accessing you're voicemail, the order of the sounds should be:

Playing 'vm-youhave' (language 'fr')
  -- Playing 'digits/1' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-INBOX' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-and' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'digits/2' (language 'fr')
-- Playing 'vm-Old' (language 'fr')

   -- Playing 'vm-messages' (language 'fr')
       -- Playing 'vm-onefor' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-messages' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-INBOX' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-opts' (language 'fr')

Please ignore my previous note (pressed enter too soon).  The order in French, when accessing voicemail, should be this when there is at least one new message:

Playing 'vm-password' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-youhave' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'digits/1' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-INBOX' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-message' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-and' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'digits/2' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-messages' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-Old' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-onefor' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-INBOX' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-messages' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-opts' (language 'fr')

When there is no new messages (i.e.: press 1 to hear your old messages) it works perfectly as it is, because in french it's "new messages" like in English, but "message old" when referring to archived messages ("Messages Archivés")

There is probably plenty to do to make French sound better, I am not sure how much I should ask for since I dont know what priority this has with the dev team.

bluefox: are you still interested in this fix?
I could write you something here.

By: Michael Gaudette (bluefox) 2006-04-11 08:49:56

Yes I am still interested.  If you need any more info, just ask I'll be glad to help.

[Apr 11 13:07:45]     -- Playing 'vm-opts' (language 'fr')
[...]

Please note: my vm-Old says "anciens" and not "archivés".

is is what you looking for?

By: Michael Gaudette (bluefox) 2006-04-12 12:19:22

Close, but thats not it.
The order should be (with at least one new message):
Playing 'vm-password' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-youhave' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'digits/1' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-INBOX' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-message' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-and' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'digits/2' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-messages' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-Old' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-onefor' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-INBOX' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-messages' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-opts' (language 'fr')

...And when there are no messages:

Playing 'vm-password' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-youhave' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'digits/2' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-messages' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-Old' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-onefor' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-messages' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-Old' (language 'fr')
   -- Playing 'vm-opts' (language 'fr')

"Vous avez 1 nouveau message et 2 messages archivés"
and "Vous avez 2 messages archivés".

This is what it should be in french, ideally.  Unfortunately, it also means people who had worked around this issue by "McGyving" this will have to change their messages.
