According to me, you should never save a file containing "*"

/var/spool/asterisk/dictate/11.raw
/var/spool/asterisk/dictate/14.raw
/var/spool/asterisk/dictate/25.raw
/var/spool/asterisk/dictate/**11.raw
/var/spool/asterisk/dictate/1.raw

Notice the "**11.raw" file.

Because * would be hard to not match :)

not if you are using the app_dictate to both read and write the file, you would never know the difference as it has no worries about '*' I'll let everyone else decide since it don't care all that much it's sort of a philosophical issue.

I don't think it's worth changing the code for this; every shell I have used allows quoting to match filenames with glob characters in them, so there are definitely ways to deal with it.

I can see cause for confusion with this.  How about we close this one out as not a bug but if somone wants to take the time create a patch that would be fine too?

I agree, if there is a patch for this (with the voice recording(s) that will be necessary) then we can address it, but I don't think any of us are going to volunteer to write the patch for a relatively minor issue like this :-)
