According to the web site, freeplaymusic is not free for music on hold music.

Whose website? FPM's?

The fact that three selected tunes have been added to CVS begs the question of whether any arrangement has been made between Digium and FPM for the use of those tracks with Asterisk. It is this that needs clarification, one way or the other.

I fully agree, we need a clarification here. Otherwise we risk that our users will start using the files commercially without a valid license.

They are.. they wouldn't be included otherwise.  Read the changelog

Added licensed hold music from FreePlayMusic

That means it is.

We have been permitted to include the music with the Asterisk distribution. There is no specific license beyond that.

Markster - please confirm that the permission included the right for users to use this in commercial use for music on hold purposes.

If so, I think we should add a README note explaining this more clearly than it is explained today, like

"This music from FreePlayMusic is free to use for Asterisk Music On Hold in commercial use. To find other music files for Music On Hold, license them
directly from http://www.freeplaymusic.com."
