I added this to a separate README file since I found nowhere else to put it. We can move it in to README, but I guess we can't overload that either.

I believe this should technically be added to the README file in CVS-HEAD since the patch was commited there.  Since this may or may not make it to STABLE, I don't see a problem putting it there.  James?

This is partially incorrect.  The load average is actually two characters:

%l1 Load average over past minute
%l2 Load average over past 5 minutes
%l3 Load average over past 15 minutes
%l4 Process fraction (processes running / total processes)
%l5 The most recently allocated pid


And actually, I don't see a point in putting this into a README file.  Where it really should go is into a manpage for asterisk(8).

%h is actually the FQDN not just the hostname.. which can make for long prompts :/

Is this dead in the water now?  AFAIK, this is still active in -head, let's get some documentation for it, shall we?

Unfortunately, the bugnote about load average being wrong in the document was not applied to the final document.

About the only thing worse than poor documentation is WRONG documentation.
