Description:setting asterisk as the following :
disallow =all
allow =g729
allow =alaw
allow =ulaw

this settings allow me make a call from 7940 (ulaw,alaw,g729)attached to asterisk to external cisco gateway 5350 (g729). then if i try to call voice mail(gsm,alaw,ulaw) access number i receive the following message: ast_set_write_format: Unable to find a path from GSM to G729A...

****** ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ******

My phone capable to use alaw and voice mail system can use alaw... Asterisk codec negotiatiaon mechanism  always check only first codec in prefered list.
1)Will be great if asterisk seq check all codecs from the prefered list to negotiate connection beetwen devices.
2) all use preffered codec list from remote, im my case its phone codec list and gateway.
PS: i understand that i can buy g729 channel .. but question still remain - my asterisk stay from on the hand disctance (and to check mail i am prefer to use alaw as most quality), in the same time gateway to reach pstn subscriber in remote location - and its make impossible to use g711 as transport protocol... i will use with device g729.

Thank you

You have ot have the g729 codec to translate from gsm to g729 or you have to set the phone to use ulaw or some other codec by default or it will try to do g729.  This isn't a bug.  You will require the codec to have any sort of translation from anything to g729.

Not a bug.
