Description:It would be nice with asterisk-asterisk IAX2 connections if a line is put on hold on asterisk box #1 and dosen't have MOH configured, that the call is placed on IAX hold so that instead if silence the far end box could (optionally) play MOH for that channel and furthermore not use any bandwidth on the held channel.  I hope this makes sense...

****** ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ******

MOH is the worst thing you can do to a VoIP pipe, and theres no point of sending dead air over a channel between two asterisk boxes anyway.  Surely theres "hold" on the IAX protocol since it works with IAX phones.

Accually testing lastnight with IAX2 it does exactly this when I used a SIP phone to put the call on hold. It held the stream at the remote server.
